MEGAN SWICK
CHOREOGRAPHER / ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Much of my work investigates a self-invented movement strategy of flow and loss of self-consciousness or awareness. I like to create series of transitions through empowering feminine movement aesthetics, and synthesize sentences to create a choreographic ride for my dancers. I design an environment of respite, a place where sanity with in the group can be found and dancers can release and move together as a flock of girls dancing for a common cause. Binti works with women who have histories of trauma, and I able to apply this movement strategy with the intention of re-empowerment, support, and ultimate release. Binti’s movement vocabulary is inspired by Middle Eastern and Pan African movement aesthetics, emphasizing undulations, isolations, pop and lock, curvilinear and polycentric patterns, and polyrhythms to initiate modern dance languages. |
